I know that a lot of people think that it’s sleazy to sue a business or individual after being injured by something that the business or person did (or didn’t do), but you really shouldn’t feel bad about pursing injury compensation. Look at it this way, if your injury was caused by some kind of negligence, carelessness, or deliberate action by another entity, whether it’s an individual or a corporation, they are at fault, not you, and you have every right to be compensated for your injuries, and also the time and trouble it costs you.

Take a recent news story for an example. In early January of 2009 a recall of peanut butter products was announced because certain processed foods were found to be tainted with salmonella, something that can make you very sick or even kill you. I was horrified to learn that the same processing plant that was the source of the recall had had earlier problems with salmonella contamination had continued sending out their tainted food products, knowing that their food was unhealthy and might make people sick! In cases like that, I feel people are absolutely justified in suing the company that knowingly markets a tainted or unsafe product. If you’re concerned about the peanut butter recall and want more information about which products might be tainted, then read this web page: http://peanut-butter.legalview.info/.

I think it’s reasonable to sue for an accident if the accident was due to negligence. My neighbor sued a babysitter once because she let his son shoot a BB gun and he got hurt. They have airsoft guns at home, and she assumed the two were similar but they aren’t. He considered that negligence.

I think acciComp is right, when it’s due to negligence then I think it’s appropriate, if it’s just because you are looking to get money or want to hit the jackpot, then I’d recommend not going that route. I mean, if you got some customized bedding ruined at the dry cleaner and they refused to pay for it, then yes sue!

Absolutely, but just also realize that accidents happen. Big companies that knowingly sell tainted food, though, is no accident. Babysitters who let a child jump on the bed–not.
